BingoPlus Underdog: Reading the Side the Price Rates Less Likely
The underdog is the side a betting price rates less likely to win.
| Fact | Value |
|---|---|
| BingoPlus Indo Odds | Indo odds carry a sign. |
| BingoPlus Odds On | Odds on means a price shorter than evens: decimal odds below 2.00, a minus sign in Indo odds. |
| BingoPlus Push in Betting | A push in betting happens when the result lands exactly on the line, so the bet neither wins nor loses and the stake is returned. |
| BingoPlus Quarter Betting | Quarter betting splits a basketball game into its four quarters and prices each one: who wins the quarter, a quarter handicap, and a quarter total of points. |
| BingoPlus Total Goals | A total goals bet is on the combined goals of both teams, over or under a line. |
The underdog is the side a sportsbook’s price says is less likely to win. That lower chance is paid for with a longer price: back an underdog and a win returns more than you staked in profit. Every two-way market has one, from a basketball game to a boxing bout, and reading it correctly is the first step to reading any price.
The odds formats behind every price are compared on the BingoPlus sports tab page.
Underdog meaning in betting
Underdog meaning in betting comes down to three signs on the price.
| Format | Underdog looks like | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Decimal | Above 2.00 | 2.80 |
| Indo | A plus sign | +1.80 |
| Implied probability | Under 50% | 1 ÷ 2.80 = 35.7% |
Example with round numbers: ₱100 on an underdog at 2.80 returns ₱280 if it wins, ₱180 of it profit.
Favorite and underdog side by side
| Favourite | Underdog | |
|---|---|---|
| Decimal price | Below 2.00, e.g. 1.45 | Above 2.00, e.g. 2.80 |
| Profit on a ₱100 win | ₱45 | ₱180 |
| Implied chance | 69.0% | 35.7% |
| How it pays | Often, small | Rarely, large |
Add the two implied chances, 69.0% and 35.7%, and you get 104.7%. The 4.7% over 100 is the book’s margin. A favourite priced below 2.00 is also called odds-on, with a profit smaller than the stake.
The underdog on a handicap line
A handicap evens a lopsided match by giving the underdog a head start.
- The line is set, for example underdog +5.5 points, favourite -5.5.
- The head start is added to the underdog’s final score.
- If the underdog, with its 5.5, finishes ahead, the bet on it wins.
| Final score | Underdog +5.5 bet |
|---|---|
| Underdog loses by 3 | Wins (3 is under 5.5) |
| Underdog loses by 8 | Loses |
| Underdog wins outright | Wins |
Half-point lines cannot tie. A whole-number line such as +5 can, and then the stake comes back; see what a push in betting is.
When underdog prices tempt
Long prices look generous, and the profit on a win is real. But the price already reflects the lower chance, plus the book’s margin. Backing underdogs is a choice of how you want wins to arrive, rarely and big, not a way around the margin.
A run of underdog bets lost one after another.
That is how underdogs behave: most of them lose, and the price pays for it when one wins. Keep stakes level so a single win can cover the run.
FAQ
How do I spot the underdog in decimal odds?
It has the higher price. In a two-way market the side above 2.00 is usually the underdog and the side below 2.00 the favourite.
Does the underdog win often?
Less often than the favourite, by the book's own estimate. A price of 3.00 implies about a one-in-three chance, before the book's margin.
What is an underdog on a handicap?
The side given a head start. If an underdog is +5.5 and loses by 5 points or fewer, or wins outright, the bet wins.
