Learn the order once and you can read any showdown at a glance; learn the tie rules and you will never be surprised by a split. Below is the full order, examples, the odds idea behind it, and how ties work.
The poker tables themselves sit with the other card games on the card games page for BingoPlus.
The poker ranking, highest to lowest
| Rank | Hand | Example |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Royal flush | A-K-Q-J-10, all hearts |
| 2 | Straight flush | 9-8-7-6-5, all clubs |
| 3 | Four of a kind | Four queens and a 3 |
| 4 | Full house | Three 7s and two 4s |
| 5 | Flush | Five spades of any ranks |
| 6 | Straight | 10-9-8-7-6 of mixed suits |
| 7 | Three of a kind | Three jacks and two odd cards |
| 8 | Two pair | Two 9s, two 5s and an odd card |
| 9 | One pair | Two aces and three odd cards |
| 10 | High card | No combination; the highest card plays |
Why the poker hands ranking runs in this order
The poker hands ranking follows how rare each hand is in a 52-card deck: the rarer the hand, the higher it ranks. There are only 4 royal flushes among the 2,598,960 possible five-card hands, while more than 1,300,000 of them hold no pair at all.
- Rarer hands beat commoner hands.
- That is why a flush, harder to make than a straight, outranks it.
- And why a full house, harder still, outranks the flush.
How ties are split
When two hands share a rank, compare inside the rank.
| Situation | What decides |
|---|---|
| Two flushes | The highest card in each, then the next, and so on |
| Two full houses | The rank of the three of a kind first |
| Two pairs of the same rank | The kickers, highest first |
| Everything identical | The pot or bet is split |
Suits never break a tie in standard poker. That is a key difference from Pusoy Dos, where the suit of the top card decides.
Ace high, ace low
An ace can play high or low in a straight, but not both at once.
| Cards | Straight? | Top card |
|---|---|---|
| A-K-Q-J-10 | Yes, the highest straight | Ace |
| 5-4-3-2-A | Yes, the lowest straight | Five |
| Q-K-A-2-3 | No, an ace cannot wrap round | None |
Using the ranking at a BingoPlus table
The dealer games on the Poker tab, from Caribbean Stud to Ultimate Texas Hold’em, compare your best five cards with the dealer’s using exactly this order. Two other card families on the tab use different scoring: Lucky 9 counts points to nine, explained on the page about the BingoPlus Lucky 9 tables, and Tongits counts melds and card points, explained on the page about how BingoPlus Tongits tables score melds.
You thought you won with two pair but the dealer took the hand.
Compare the higher pair first, then the lower pair, then the kicker. A dealer’s kings and twos beat your queens and jacks.
FAQ
Does a flush beat a straight?
Yes. A flush ranks above a straight, and a full house ranks above both.
What happens when two players have the same hand?
Compare the cards that make the hand, then the remaining cards, called kickers, one by one from the highest. If everything matches, the pot is split; suits do not decide in standard poker.
Is the poker ranking the same in Pusoy?
The five-card hand names overlap, but Pusoy Dos has its own order and uses suits to break ties. Check the Pusoy table's rules screen.
