75 ball bingo, card by card
A 75 ball bingo card is a grid of five columns and five rows: 25 squares in all.
- Five columns, headed B, I, N, G and O.
- Five numbers per column, drawn from that letter’s range, in any order.
- One free space in the centre square, which counts as already marked.
- 24 numbers on the card once the free space is taken out (25 squares minus 1).
Because each column only uses its own fifteen numbers, two cards rarely match. The count of possible cards is enormous, which is why a room can sell thousands without repeats.
What changes in 90-ball bingo
The other common format, popular in halls in the United Kingdom, uses 90 balls and a ticket of three rows and nine columns, with five numbers per row. How bingo calls work
Bingo calls name the letter, then the number. In a live studio room the host reads each one as the ball leaves the machine and the screen prints it.
- The machine releases a ball.
- The host reads the call, such as “B 7” or “O 66”.
- The game marks every card in the room holding that number.
- The screen keeps a board of called numbers so you can check what has gone.
Halls in some countries use rhyming nicknames for numbers. Online rooms keep to the letter and the number, which is all you need.
